ICAEW to award businesses that embrace sustainable development

Top 10 unveiled for ICAEW Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Award

The top ten of the UK’s public and private sector businesses that have embraced corporate responsibility and sustainability has been announced today, Wednesday 28 July, as finalists for The ICAEW Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Award.

This year organisations range from the well-known – Coca Cola, The Co-Operative Group and Unilever – through to the rising stars of Otters Brewery in Devon.

Of those shortlisted, ICAEW chief executive Michael Izza, said: “At ICAEW, we believe that even though businesses today are working against a backdrop of global economic uncertainty embracing sustainability is still vital. In fact, the new economic reality means that business must develop greater innovation and creativity in the way they respond to that uncertainty, improving productivity and developing new products and markets without losing their commitment to sustainability. It is about creating a business model which will deliver value to shareholders whilst meeting the changing needs of people and the planet.”

“I believe” continued Michael, “that enterprise and entrepreneurship are great engines of change and that business has, therefore, a huge positive role to play in delivering on the goal of sustainability which is why we are sponsoring The ICAEW Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Award and congratulate all the finalists announced today and I look forward to meeting them all at the judging at the Gherkin in September.”
